So vivid was my dream
that when I awoke
I was surprised to find a tear,
not your hand,
caressing my cheek.
When I extended my arms
To pull you to me
all I got was an embrace of air –
empty even of your scent
Your lips did not linger on mine
Your eyes did not gaze at me
But yet your memory,
Imbedded in my mind,
was real.
